We sat down with our Councilmembers to ask them 5 questions in 5 minutes. Here’s what Councilmember Gary Swanson had to say.
Bonus Question: As a veteran councilmember, what has serving the City of Foley meant to you?
Having served on the council for several years, its a feeling of gratitude, appreciation, and a sense of accomplishment. Some projects take many years of planning. Seeing them completed gives me a great feeling knowing that we’re helping to maintain our infrastructure and keep up with the times.
1. What is your favorite thing about living in Foley?
The community is so close knit. Everyone knows everyone. It has a family type atmosphere.
2. What motivated you to get involved with city government?
I like the challenges that come from working with citizens and coming together, even when we disagree, to do what we need to do. We reach a greater understanding when we see all that’s been accomplished.
3. What is the one thing you wish people knew about Foley?
The hours and hard work it takes to accomplish the many good things that make a community great. I would like to see more people getting involved with issues at the city level.
4. What do you believe is the most pressing issue facing the City Council in 2023?
We need to finish the wastewater and Hwy 23 projects. I would also like to see the start of new residential and industrial plots. Senior housing is also being kept on the agenda.
