Foley City Council Announces Closure of Municipal Swimming Pool for 2020 Season

After careful consideration, the Foley City Council voted reluctantly during their May 21 meeting to close the Foley Municipal Pool for the 2020 season.

“The City Council made the difficult decision tonight to close the pool for the 2020 season. We had postponed the decision of whether or not to open the pool for as long as we could in hopes that the situation with the COVID outbreak would improve.

Our staff was ready to move quickly, working extra hours if necessary, to get the pool ready even if opening day was delayed. Unfortunately, given the strict social distancing requirements from the Red Cross and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as well as no direction on when pools would be allowed to open from the Governor’s office, we have decided against opening the pool this summer.

We know how much our residents love the pool. Our staff and councilmembers are all very disappointed that we were not able to open the pool for our residents, especially for the children in our community who look forward to the pool every summer. We hope to reopen the pool in 2021.”

The Foley Municipal Swimming pool is one of the few outdoor aquatic centers in the area. The pool is open seven days a week throughout the summer, offering water fun for all ages.

Be sure to check out our Red Cross Certified swimming lessons as well as private pool rentals for your next event. Located next to Holdridge Park, the Foley Pool is the perfect setting for a great time!

The pool is closed for the season but will reopen 2021.
Thanks for a great season! See you next summer!
